Day One:

Depart Chiang Mai and travel north for a visit to Chiang Dao Caves. Take lunch in a local restaurant then a stop at a forest temple followed by a drive along rural back roads through scenic countryside to a rare Paulong hill tribe village. Overnight at Maekok River Village Resort. Enjoy dinner followed by drinks around the campfire ( if the weather is cool enough) at guest expense.
Day Two

After breakfast, an optional visit to the Giant Buddha images overlooking the valley from nearby Wat Thaton. At 1000 hrs, depart the resort to visit several ethnic minority villages (Shan, Akha, Yao, Karen). Board a river barge for a lazy rafting trip down river. (Canoes are carried onboard for those who wish to use them), Picnic lunch on the river bank, (optional) 1.5 hour mini-trek to a Mussur (Lahu) hill tribe village. Overnight in a comfortable jungle camp sleeping in bamboo bungalows, BBQ dinner & Campfire.
Day Three

After a full breakfast, re-board the river barge for some more lazy rafting. Stop at one or two hill tribe villages or the hot springs before arriving at the Karen village of Ban Ruam Mit for a 2 – hours elephant safari followed by lunch in a local restaurant. Continue down river to Chiang Rai, disembarking at the Dusit Island Resort jetty. Check in to the Dusit Island Resort. Dinner is a set meal served in the hotel restaurant.

After a relaxed breakfast, the guide collects you from the resort at 0700 hrs for a 1.5hr journey to the Maekong River where you take a short boat ride to the exact ‘ three country border junction’ (Thailand – Laos – Burma) of the Golden Triangle, then return and visit the opium museum. Visit the Thai-Burma market town of Mae Sai, crossing (optional at guest expense – US$5.- boreder crossing fee) over into Burma at Tachilek to explore the local market. Travel via Chiang Rai where you have lunch on the outskirts of the city,
Then;
- Those on programme SA 406A continue on to Chiang Mai with a tea / coffee and toilet stop en route. The evening meal is normally taken at a Khantoke restaurant.
- Those on programme SA 406B leave the tour after lunch for either the airport of for their chosen hotel in the city.
- Those on tour SA 406C are dropped off back at the Rimkok Resort at around 1430hrs. They have the afternoon at leisure followed by a set dinner in the hotel restaurant. The stay a second night in the Dusit Island Resort and after breakfast the following morning take the hotel courtesy bus to the airport for their flight out.
Note* - On crossing into Burma, passports are required to be shown but they are not stamped.
Note* For those who wish to decline the Khantoke Dinner on the evening of day 4 in favour of shopping in the night bazaar, your guide will reimburse you a cash sum with which you can buy food in the restaurant or food centre of your choice.
