Hike and Cultural Tour through Mexico's Breathtaking Copper Canyon and Sierra Madre Mountains!

Imagine hiking in a canyon so magnificent that the Grand Canyon is but a little brother! Visit the homeland of the native Tarahumara Indians, reportedly the world's greatest long distance runners and keepers of ancient ways! Take the most spectacular train ride in the Western Hemisphere as it climbs almost 8000 rugged feet in the Sierra Madre Mountains!

Day 1 Los Mochis. Transfer to the village of El Fuerte, the best departure point to the Copper Canyon region.

Day 2 Divisadero-Oteviach. Travel by train to Divisadero, one of the most famous spots in the Sierra Tarahumara region. This location offers one of the most spectacular views into Urique Canyon. Then make a transfer to Oteviach, a small Tarahumara community on the rim of the canyon.

Days 3-4 Urique Canyon. Hike into Urique Canyon, the deepest canyon in the Sierra Tarahumara at 6,200 feet. Incredible 360-degree views are had as we make the descent toward the canyon floor. Halfway into the canyon we find a natural hot spring – perfect for a dip. Our Tarahumara guides will lead a traditional trek and "burro train", which carries most of the gear, while sharing their knowledge of the land. Camp in Copper Canyon for the next two nights.

Day 5 Guitayvo Village. Hike into the village of Guitayvo, on a big mesa on the rim of the canyon that offers breathtaking views. Guitayvo is a Tarahumara community that has developed small guest cabins with comfortable beds and showers for visitors. The evening is open for exploration of their rituals and culture. We'll dine with the locals and be welcomed in their homes.

Day 6 Creel. Transfer to Creel for a free day. Creel is the largest town in the Copper Canyon region with a number of natural attractions nearby that make it an eco-tourist's dream location. There are opportunities to bike, ride horseback, visit Arareko Lake, browse the Tarahumara Museum, see an ancient Jesuit mission, or just lounge around.

Days 7-8 Basaseachi National Park-Chihuahua. Travel to Basaseachi National Park, where the two largest waterfalls in Mexico are located – Basaseachi and Piedra Bolada Falls. The viewpoints are among the most impressive of the canyons, including one at the highest point of the cascade called Window of San Lorenzo. Transfer to Chihuahua City.
