Yucatan:Bird watching tours

 

This unique eco-tour is specially design for bird watchers. We will be able to visit the main protected areas in theYucatan peninsula such as Sianka’an, Holbox, Coba, and El Eden, as well as Guatemala and Belize rainforest.

Mexico has around 1,040 different bird species, just in the Yucatan peninsula there are 509 different species in 62 families, from which 12 are endemic, with 4 subspecies, 2 morphos and 14 hipotetical registers. Belize and Guatemala have also more than 550 species of birds.

The protected areas of the Yucatan peninsula provide the habitat for 87 % of the species registered, and 88 % of the 186 species of migratory birds.

Itinerary

Day 1.

Pick up tourists in the Airport and transfer to Ojo de Agua hotel in Puerto Morelos. Depending on the hours of arrivals visit the botanical garden of PuertoMorelos in the afternoon to see wild spider monkeys and some birds.


Day 2.


8:00         Breakfast in the hotel.

9:00         Depart to Coba archeological site.

11:00       Arrival to Coba, and visit of the archeological site and bird observation in the jungle of Coba.

13:00       Lunch in the archeological site ( sandwiches, fruit, etc. ).

15:00       Depart to Sianka’an biosphere reserve.

18:00       Arrival and check inn private ranch inside Sianka’an biosphere reserve.

20:00       Dinner.

21:00       Fireplace.
 

Day 3.

6:00         Kayak or boat trip through the lagoon for bird observation.

8:00         Breakfast.

9:00         Depart to Punta Allen fishing town.

10:30       Arrival and taking a boat to Cayo Culebras in Ascención Bay in the reserve to see frigatebirds nesting.

13:00       Back to Punta Allen for lunch.

14:00       Trekking in Punta Allen town.

16:00       Departo to the ranch.

19:00       Dinner in the ranch.
 
Day 4
6:00         Kayak or boat trip through the lagoon for bird observation.

8:00         Breakfast.

11:00       Snorkeling in the reefs of the reserve.

13:00       Lunch in the ranch.

14:30       Depart to Holbox island.

18:00       Arrival and check inn Villas Delfines cabins in Holbox island.

20:00       Dinner at the hotel. 

Day 5.

 
8:00         Breakfast in the hotel.

9:00         Boat trip to Bird island to see egrets, herons, flamingos, etc.

14:00       Lunch in Holbox town.

16:00       Boat trip in search of wild dolphins and swimming in the Yalahau cenote.

20:00       Dinner at the hotel.
Day 6.
 
6:00         Boat trip to Bird island.

8:00         Breakfast in hotel.

9:00         Depart to El Eden private reserve.

12:00       Arrival and check inn El Eden private reserve.

13:00       Lunch in El Eden dining room.

16:00       Trekking through the jungle for bird observation.

20:00       Dinner at the El Eden dining room.

21:00       Night trekking.
 
Day 7.
 
7:00         Breakfast in El Eden dining room.

8:00         Trekking through the savanna, jungle for bird and crocodile observation.

13:00       Lunch in El Eden dining room.

14:30       Check out and depart to Ojo de Agua hotel in Puerto Morelos.

17:30       Arrival and check inn Ojo de Agua hotel.

20:00       Dinner at hotel.
Day 8.
a) Transfer to the airport for flight back.

b) Optional extension to Guatemala and Belice.
 
Early transfer for flight to Tikal.

Transfer to Flores hotel.
Day 9.
7:00         Breakfast in the hotel.

8:00         Visit Tikal National park and birding the area.

13:00       Lunch in the park.

17:00       Back to the hotel.

19:00       Dinner in the hotel.
 
Day 10.
7:00         Breakfast in the hotel.

8:00         Depart to Xunantunich archeological site.

11:00       Arrival and visit Xunantunich archeological site, birding in the area.

13:00       Box lunch in the area.

17:00       Depart to Maya Mountain lodge or Hidden Valley Inn.

18:00       Arrival to Maya mountain lodge   or Hidden valley Inn in the heart of the Maya Mountain Forest reserve.

19:00       Dinner in the hotel.
 
Day 11.
6:00         Optional trekking in the morning for birdwatching.

7:00         Breakfast in the hotel.

8:00         Depart to Chan Chic river for birding.

10:00       Arrival and trekking in the forest for birding.

13:00       Box lunch in the area.

16:00       Back to the hotel.

19:00       Dinner in the hotel.
Day 12.
7:00         Breakfast in the hotel.

8:00         Depart to Caracol archeological site.

10:00       Arrival and trekking through lowland Maya settlement of Caracol archeological site.

13:00       Box lunch in the area.

17:00       Back to the hotel.

19:00       Dinner in the hotel.
 
Day 13
8:00         Breakfast in the hotel.

9:00         Trekking in the  pine forest of   Hidden valley. View of the 1,000 feet water fall.

13:00       Lunch in the hotel.

17:00       Back to the hotel.

19:00       Dinner in the hotel.
 
Day 14
Transfer to Flores for flight to Cancun..

Arrival and check inn El Rey del Caribe Hotel down town cancun or Mex hotel with beach front ( Rey del caribe hotel is down town, it does not has a beach. Mex hotel probably 25 USD more expensive / room because of beach front.
 
Day 15
 
Free day for shopping. resting by the beach, etc. Optional tours will be available.
 
Day 16
 
Transfer to the airport for flights back.

The minimum size of a group is 6 persons, while the biggest  is 10. These
