Self Drive:Circle of The North

DAY 1:CHIANG RAI – GOLDEN TRIANGLE
Start the journey with a visit to Wat Prasigh in the city centre, then drive northwards along route no. 110 and turn left to route No. 1149 heading for Doi Tung. Visit Doi Tung Palace and the Royal Project. Afterwards, drive back to route no.110 and turn left driving northwards to Mae Sai via Mae Chan. Lunch at local restaurant is suggested. Continue on route No.1290 up and downhill to Golden Triangle. Check-in at hotel.Accommodation at Imperial Golden Triangle.

DAY 2:CHIANG RAI – DOI MAE SALONG – CHIANG MAI (B)
Breakfast at hotel.Drive along route No. 1016 to Doi Mae Salong. Continue on route no.1089 to Tha Ton where you can enjoy rafting down the river. Suggested lunch at a local restaurant. Continue on route No. 1089 connecting to route no. 107 to Chiang Dao. Visit Chiang Dao Elephant Training Centre and Chiang Dao Cave, then proceed southwards on route No. 107 to Chiang Mai City. Accommodation at The Empress Chiang Mai Hotel.

DAY 3:CHIANG MAI AND AROUND (B)
Breakfast at hotel.Drive southwards on route No. 108 and turn right to route No. 1009 at Chom Thong to Doi Inthanon – the Thailand's highest mountain at 2565m (8415 ft). Lunch at local restaurant is suggested. Afternoon drive back to Chiang Mai to visit Phra That Doi Suthep or the Home Industry, where umbrella paper and other local handicrafts are made. Accommodation at The Empress Chiang Mai Hotel.

DAY 4:CHIANG MAI – MAE SAA VALLEY – MAE HONG SON (B)
Breakfast at hotel.Head for Mae Saa Valley on route no. 107 to visit the orchid farm and the elephant working site. Continue on route No. 107 and turn left at Mae Taeng to route No. 1095 for the National Park Huay Nam Dang. Then proceed to Pai, en route visit hilltribe villages of Karen, Lahu and Lisu people suggested. Lunch at local restaurant in Pai. Afterwards, drive on route no. 1095 to Soppong, a small but prosperous market village, and then turn right to route No. 1226 to Tham Lot National Park (Lot Cave). A local guide will hold a lamp showing around in the cave. Then proceed on route No. 1095 to Fish Cave. Continue on route No.1095 and arrive Mae Hong Son in the late afternoon. Accommodation at Imperial Tara Mae Hong Son Hotel.

DAY 5:MAE HONG SON AND AROUND (B)
Breakfast at hotel.Boat trip along Pai River to Padong Village of Ban Nam Pieng Din, home of the long necked Padong Tribe (Giraffe Women). Come back from Padong and lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, appreciate the beautiful city of Mae Hong Son from the viewpoint of Wat Phra Dhat Doi Kong Moo, followed by the unique architecture of Wat Prathat Chong Kham and Wat Pra That Chong Klang.
