DOLPHIN PACKAGES & PONTA d'OURO

NO pools, NO trainers and NO feeding. It is the dolphin’s world and they take the initiative.

(If the timing or programme of the scheduled holistic journeys are not to your liking, we do offer a ‘JUST DOLPHINS’ package (no programme, no workshops, no teachings, just pure dolphins!) These bookings are not subject to minimum numbers and individual bookings are welcome.

We runs regular scheduled tours to Ponta d’Ouro where we swim with WILD dolphins. Situated at the southern point of Mozambique, a resident pod of over a hundred dolphins can be seen frolicking in the surf at Ponta d’Ouro. This is where the opportunity arises to encounter these playful, curious and highly intelligent mammals on their own terms - In the Big Blue.

During our holistic dolphin journeys, activities such as facilitated djembe drum circles, sound journeys, yoga, art & dance playshops are mostly on offer. Additionally, we invite different facilitators to run each journey, continuously offering a fresh, ever evolving and dynamic experience for our clients. These courses include anything from Reflexology & the Language of the Feet with Chris Stormer, Reiki and Meditation retreats with Keith McFarlane, The Transformation Game and Sandplay with Gillian Barton, Re-birthing & Fire purification with Hilde Light and much more.

All activities are voluntary and everyone is free to do as much or as little as they wish. In between the playshops and courses, participants have loads of free time to just soak in the sun, have a snooze, enjoy a massage, explore the village with newly found friends or get lost in a good book. A typica day may start with yoga or Tai Chi on the beach, followed by the dolphin launch which last for about 2-hours.

A scrumptious buffet brunch awaits all the hungry mouths after the swims with the dolphins. The rest of the morning and mid-afternoon is at your own leisure with a 2-3 hour event with our facilitators slotted in during the afternoon.

The early evening activity before dinner, is usually orientated around our musical events and takes place around a dancing fire in the middle of our central space. These activities can be anything from a drum circle, to a sound journey or voice orchestra to belly dancing. After dinner some participants might feel the rhythm of Africa in their veins and find themselves dancing the night away in one of the local Latino-Africa style bars/restaurants in the quaint village of Ponta d’Ouro.

With a maximum of 25 clients on our holistic tours, the experience remains intimate and personal. The unique combination of swimming with the dolphins and participating in our weekend program, offers a fun-filled opportunity to transform limiting belief systems and totally embracing the joys of life.

Dolphins seem to possess a unique ability to trigger the healing process within us; symbolising vitality, freedom, joy and serenity. Just being in their presence seems to evoke a feeling of profound inner peace and joy. Often a fresh sense of direction emerges and transformation or healing on some level mysteriously begins to take place.

Our tours with the dolphins in Ponta d’Ouro is run in association with Dolphin Encountours who have been based in Ponta d’Ouro since 1995 as an internationally acclaimed dolphin research project, run to international standards ensuring non-invasive interaction with the dolphins. The protection and conservation of the dolphins in the area takes first priority. The encounters with the dolphins are on their own terms; NO pools, NO trainers and NO feeding. It is the dolphin’s world and they take the initiative.

Over the years Dolphin Encountours have built a trusting relationship with the dolphins around Ponta d'Ouro, allowing only 2-4 people into the water at a time. We believe this is conducive to some extraordinary experiences. The dolphins have become very curious of us humans and it would seem that they enjoy the human encounters almost as much as we enjoy the dolphin ones! Clients are advised that the type of interaction we have is totally dependent on the dolphin’s behaviour.

They will not be coaxed into playing, nor will they be herded or chased. Contact with these sentient beings has therapeutic effects on our physiology and our spiritual state.

Swimmers often report a feeling of deep relaxation, even bliss. Dolphins emit high frequency sonar which we hear as a series of clicks and whistles. Sound travels 4.5 times faster through water than through air. Therefore the dolphin's ability to induce this euphoric state in us is most apparent when these sounds are transmitted to us through the water while swimming with them.

At Ponta D'Ouro, we have observed the various pods of Indian Bottlenose and Spinner dolphins over an extended period of time, and have identified the individuals by means of their unique dorsal fins. Dolphin Encountours are documenting all of the behaviour observed including feeding, basking, mating and socialising as well as the interaction with human beings. This dolphin is called ‘Bo’. She seems to be our social butterfly… moving from pod to pod and almost acting as an ambassador between us as humans and other dolphins pods.
