1: CHIANG MAI - LISU LODGE ( L, D ) Drive to the mountain temple of Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, the most famous landmark of Chiang Mai. Drive up the mountain, passing the King's summer palace of Phuping. Turn onto a rough dirt road to the Chiang Khien coffee research project. Continue to the white Hmong village of Chiang Khien, enjoy a quick cup of steaming mountain tea with a village family. A one hour drive along a mountain ridge, then down to the Mae Sa valley for lunch at Orchid Farm. Drive one hour to the Jungle Safari , and enjoy such rural activities as elephant, ox-cart riding and river Bamboo rafting. Drive along rough dirt roads, to the Akha village of Huay Pong and will make you welcome in their pretty village. Continue to Lisu Lodge. Here, a short rest in the ‘living area’ before a village trip guided by one of the family heads to see a little of Lisu customs and culture. Dinner in our Lodge. Over dinner, enjoy Lisu music from one of our village team of Lisu banjo players and dancing by girls from the village, then to bed. Day 2: LISU LODGE - THA TON ( B, L, D ) After breakfast, leave Lisu Lodge, north to Muang Gurt, over bridge to arrive at Chiang Dao caves (1.5 hrs). Drive to Rim Doi resort for lunch. After lunch, drive (20mins) to the small town of Arunothai on the Burmese border. Continue over spectacular mountain roads to Doi Ang Khang (1.5 hrs), a large botanical research station where many temperate flowers and crops are grown at high altitude. After a 30 minutes visit, continue to a very beautiful and traditional high altitude Palong village (Nor Lae) and visit these friendly people with their colourful costumes. After the visit, drive on to Thaton (1 hour) to Thaton River View for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: THA TON - GOLDEN TRIANGLE ( B, L ) After breakfast, depart from the Maekok River Village to Doi Mae Salong and visit the hilltribe and Chinese market (30 mins), then drive to the Akha village of Pakha Sukjai. After the visit, drive to the Yao village of Lao Sip. Visit the village and continue to Mae Chan on to Mae Sai, border town with Myanmar. Lunch at a Riverside restaurant, Mae Sai, overlooking Burma. *Optional visit to Burma - the border town of Tachilek. Then drive to the Golden Triangle, to arrive at the Baan Boran Hotel. Overnight at the Baan Boran.
Day 4: GOLDEN TRIANGLE - CHIANG MAI ( B, L )
After breakfast, leave Baan Boran Hotel to Golden Triangle arch. Then 1.5 hrs longtail boat trip to Chiang Khong with lunch at local restaurant. After lunch,drive to Chiang Rai and short visit the city,then transfer to Chiang Rai airport for onwards travel.See THE LISU LODGE for details of this award winning ECO LODGE.
