4 Days / 3 Nights • The Lisu Lodge / Chiang Rai / Mae Hong Son
Traveling on a 4WD to visit the major tribes villages of the north almost untouched by tourism.
Day 1: CHIANG MAI - GOLDEN TRIANGLE (L)
Depart from Chiang Mai by 4WD to the city of Chiang Rai and stop en route at the hot springs of Mae Kha Chan. Continue to Chiang Khong via Hmong Muang Klang village for a visit. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and in the afternoon take a boat trip along the Mekong River from Chiang Khong to Chiang Saen including a visit of Wat Chedi Luang. Continue driving to the Golden Triangle before checking in at Baan Boran Hotel or Imperial Golden Triangle.
Day 2: GOLDEN TRIANGLE - LISU LODGE (B, L, D)
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Lisu Lodge via Mae Sai, the northern most point of Thailand. Then drive up to Mae Salong to visit the villages of Yao, Akha and a Chinese refugee village Kuomingtang. Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit Chiang Dao cave and then continue by road to Lisu Lodge. Dinner with Lisu music from one of Lisu banjo player and dance performed by the village children. Overnight at Lisu Lodge.
Day 3: LISU LODGE - MAE HONG SON (B, L)
Breakfast at the lodge. Then enjoy Lisu and Akha hilltribe activities such as silverware and musical instrument making, embroidering and organic gardening followed by a village trip guided by one of the family heads to experience Lisu customs and culture.
After that, drive to visit the Karen village and continue along mountainous road to Pai. Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, visit the Lod Cave, a gigantic cave with an inner river. Continue by road to Mae Hong Son for a visit of Burmese temple (Doi Kong Mu) with superb views over the mountains. Overnight at Tara Mae Hong Son.
Day 4: DEPART MAE HONG SON (B, L)
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy elephant riding across rivers and hills and then board a long-tail boat along Pai River to the Long neck tribe of Padong. After lunch at a local restaurant, transfer to Mae Hong Son airport for a further destinations.
