Hike,
Bike, Sea Kayak, and Raft the Best of the Pacific Northwest
Where ancient temperate rainforests and jagged mountains meet the
pounding Pacific, British Columbia's Vancouver Island and Washington's
Olympic Peninsula represent a vast and beautiful wilderness paradise.
Hike through forested slopes that plunge into the ocean, explore the
treasures of Becher Bay by sea kayak, raft through beautiful canyons,
and mountain bike amid virgin forests. At day's end, relax in historic
lodges, dine on a bounty of fresh seafood and unwind beneath the stars.
Day 1 Port Angeles. After meeting in Seattle, we take a hike
on the Dungeness Spit, a National Wildlife Refuge and one of the Olympic
Peninsula's most remarkable natural features.
Day 2 Olympic National Park. We mountain bike on the sparkling
shores of glacier-fed Lake Crescent before hiking through thick forests
and soaking in luxurious Sol Duc hot springs.
Day 3 Olympic National Park-Victoria. Surrounded by majestic
mountains, we raft through a spectacular canyon of old-growth forest.
Then we ferry to Victoria, British Columbia's quaint provincial capital.
Days 4-5 Vancouver Island. We learn the basics of sea kayaking
on Becher Bay, paddling among a variety of sea life including sea
lions and whales. The temperate rainforests and rocky headlands of
Vancouver Island are the setting for a day's hike along the famed
Juan de Fuca Marine Trail.
Day 6 Vancouver Island-Seattle. For our grand finale, we mountain
bike the exciting Galloping Goose Railroad Trail featuring ocean views
and flower-strewn meadows before concluding our adventure with a ferry
ride back to Seattle.
