Hike, Bike, Ride Horseback, Raft, Snorkel and Experience Canyoning
in the Dominican Republic
Dominated by towering green mountains and primordial rain forests,
criss-crossed by hundreds of rivers and waterfalls, and fringed by brilliant
coral gardens, the Dominican Republic is the most naturally beautiful
and unique of all the Caribbean Islands. For eight days we'll explore
its rural countryside and national parks on foot, mountain bike and
horseback. We'll canyon amid pristine waterfalls, raft exhilarating
whitewater, snorkel transparent waters and much, much more!
Days 1-2 Cabarete. From Puerto Plata we transfer to the renowned
beaches of Cabarete from where we'll explore the lush, tropical Dominican
countryside riding bikes down scenic paths and through tiny villages.
Day 3 Cabarete-Jarabacoa. Beginner or advanced, you'll revel
in the unmatched snorkeling experience of the coral reefs, rock walls,
and blue holes of the waters of the Dominican Republic. For an afternoon
horseback ride we head to the foothills of the Cordillera Septentrional.
Days 4-5 Burmudez-Jarabacoa-El Yaque del Norte River. We explore
the clear streams and forests of pine, palm, and bamboo while we enjoy
the smells, sights and sounds of the remote Bermudez National Park,
home to the country's highest peaks. Then get ready to raft through
a striking, jungle canyon for an exciting whitewater experience from
start to finish.
Days 6-7 Cordillera Septentrional. Sample exotic fruits as we
learn more about Dominican culture followed by a thrilling 3,000-foot
downhill mountain bike ride. Experience canyoning – which combines hiking,
swimming and basic rappelling – amid towering limestone cliffs.
Day 8 El Choco. Involving all of our senses, we feel the wonders
of El Choco National Park, an incredible mosaic of jungle, lagoons,
caves, forest, and open backcountry before concluding in Puerto Plata
or Cabarete.
