Hike and Raft in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Prince William Sound
Alaska's spectacular scenery and wildlife make it the pride of the United States. Grizzly bears and moose roam the bush. Bald eagles and migratory waterfowl flock the skies while otters and whales frolic in waters rich with sea life. To explore this exotic territory on foot is to enter nature's extraordinary realm. Journey with us beneath towering mountains, across verdant valleys, and along tranquil shores. Ultimately come away with a true appreciation for Alaska's expansive wilderness.
Day 1 Eklutna Lake-Matanuska Valley. Hike through the valley along the shores of Eklutna Lake home to Dall sheep, moose, eagles, and bears.
Days 2-4 Kennicott-Wrangell St. Elias. Take a scenic flight to Kennicott, set in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias, the largest national park in the United States. Explore the ghost town of Kennicott, site of our cozy lodge. A morning exploration of the massive Root Glacier brings us face-to-face with a stark, ice age landscape. Looking for more adventure? Choose to hike to the historic Bonanza Mine which features glaciers, waterfalls, and ruins.
Days 5-6 Valdez-Prince William Sound. We soon arrive in Valdez, "Alaska's Little Switzerland" for a thrilling raft trip on the Tsaina River. The next day's hike to Shoup Bay is set among the fjords and glaciers that feed Prince William Sound. As an option, try your hand at sea kayaking in an unbeatable setting.
Day 7 Girdwood. Take an unforgettable ferry ride across Prince William Sound where orca whales, sea otters, and harbor seals cavort among floating icebergs. End the day exploring Winner Creek Gorge and take an exciting hand-tram across the gorge.
