Veracruz Bike Route

 

Veracruz Bike Route September 4 – 11, 2004

A unique eight days expedition discovering the beatiful colonial cities of Pueblo and Cardel, bike through the amazing landscape of this beautiful tropical state and meet its people who will welcome you with their warm smiles.

Trip highlights:

Discover the biggest city of the world. Enjoy the anthropology museum, in the museum you can see the the major archeological and ethnographic collections
gathered in Mexico since the 18th Century. Visit the fantastic colonial city of Puebla, established by the Spanish in 1531 on the main route between the port of Veracruz (the most important port in Mexico). This city is the most European city in the whole of Mexico, because it was totally built and designed by the Spanish rahter than being built within an existing Indian community.

Spend the night in a fantastic hotel in the city of Orizaba at the foot of the highest mountain of Mexico called “Pico de Orizaba” or “Pico de Citlaltépetl,” which means star as peak. From the city of Orizaba a fantasitc view of this sleeping vulcano can be enjoyed.

Enjoy a nice dinner under the stars and a night hike in the Cloud forest rerserve when all the wild animals come out; you will be able to experience the jungle to a full extent.

Spend an adventurous day near Jalcomulco. The first challenge will be rafting on the Rio Pescados river. During the class III and IV rafting you will be able enjoy the marvellous scenery of the whitewater river. Discover the capital of the state: Veracruz. This beautiful city with Mexico’s oldest and biggest port is a true experience.

Visit Tajin archaeological site, which belongs to the Totonaca culture. The word Tajin means "The Sacred city of the Dead and of the Thunder in Storm".

Trip includes:
o Transport by 12 passenger van and/or suburban for the duration of the trip
o Bi-lingual driver/guide
o 7 nights' lodging and all breakfasts, lunches and dinners
o Admission fees to Mayan sites, and protected areas
o Maps and clothing/gear lists (binoculars, insect repellant, etc.)

Day 1

Arrival in Mexico city international Airport. You are welcomed by your guide for the week and van transfer to the Majestic hotel in the beating hart of Mexico City, the Zocalo.

Day 2
07:30 Breakfast in the hotel.
09:00 Visit the amazing anthropology museum home of archeological and ethnographic collections gathered in Mexico since the 18th Century.
11:15 Depart to Puebla
13:00 Lunch in Puebla
14:00 City tour of the beautiful colonial city of Puebla. You will be able to see the beautiful European-style buildings.
16:30 Depart to Orizaba.
18:30 Arrival in Orizaba and check in hotel Fiesta Cascada or similar.
19:30 Dinner in your hotel.

Day 3
07:30 Breakfast in the hotel
09:00 Bike trip from Orizaba to Huatasco (89 km / 55 miles) During the bike trip we can enjoy the beautiful scenery. We do have to do some climbing, because there are hills in the area. During the bike trip a van will support us with nice, cool softdrinks and water. Also we have a box lunch at one of the rest stops.
18:00 Check-in Las Cañadas in the Cloud forest reserve.
19:30 Dinner under the stars. The beautiful cloud forest looks great at night that is why we are going to have dinner outside so we can enjoy the jungle at night.
20:30 Optional night hike in the Cloud forest rerserve when all the wild animals come out; you will be able to experience the jungle to a full extent.

Day 4

06:00 Optional birdwatching hike. When we get up early we can see a lot of birds.
07:30 Breakfast in the reserve.
09:00 Bike trip from Huatasco to Jalcomulco (60 km / 38 miles) There are some hills but the scenery is great so we can enjoy that. At the rest stops e will provide you with lunch, softdrinks and water.
18:00 Check in Eccosports Village.
19:30 Dinner in the hotel.

Day 5
07:30 Breakfast in the hotel.
09:00 A short bike trip to Rio Pescados (4.8 km / 3 miles)
09:30 Enjoy a nice rafting trip in a class III and IV whitewater river. We want to go through the canyon where you can admire the wonderful scenery. This is just the perfect area to do rafting, because the rapids are very nice and you are surrounded by coffee plantations and mango trees.
12:00 Lunch
13:00 Enjoy more adventure sports like rapelling and zip-line.
19:30 Dinner in the hotel.

Day 6
07:30 Breakfast in the hotel
09:00 Bike trip from Jalcomulco to Cardel colonial city (64 km / 40 miles)
14:00 Enjoy a nice lunch in the colonial city.
15:00 City tour in the colonial city.
17:00 Depart to Veracruz.
18:30 Arrival in Veracruz and check-in hotel Calinda Veracruz.
19:30 Dinner in your hotel.
20:30 After dinner we can go explore this very beautiful city. We can go and visit its harbor and walk around the main area where you can always find nice people.

Day 7
07:30 Breakfast in the hotel.
09:00 Bike trip to Tajin archaeological site (12 km / 9 miles)
11:00 Visit El Tajín archaeological site, which is located at the foot of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains. These ruins belong to the Totonaca culture. Many of the structures at El Tajín date from 300 - 600 A.D. although this Totonacan center is thought to have reached its peak between 800 and 1150 A.D.
13:00 Lunch near the archaeological site?
14:00 Visit the enchanted waterfalls.
16:00 Depart to Mexico City
19:00 Check-in Majestic hotel
20:00 Dinner in your hotel.

Day 8

Transfers to the airport are depending on the flights back.

The Veracruz Bike Route price includes:

The Veracruz Bike Route does NOT include:
- Alchoholic beverages
- Personal expenses such as: laundry, phone calls, souvenirs
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner on day 8

For all the tours we recommend bringing comfortable clothes and shoes, insect repellent, hat, swimsuit, long sleeve cotton shirt, long cotton pants, impermeable jacket, hygienic personal stuff and sun blocker.

We want to remind that 5 % of the tourist fee is donated for projects to PROTECT THE MAYAN NATURE.
