Thailand offers a well maintained railway network and traveling by train is one of the most interesting ways to discover the Land of Smiles. While you travel in a leisurely and comfortable pace, you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes, villages and cities that are passing by.
The tour combines the most interesting places in Thailand and you will see not only remarkable temples and museums but also experience the daily life of the Thai people. While long distances are covered by train, we use local busses and taxis for sightseeing and transportation in cities.
Day 01 Bangkok
After arrival in Bangkok, transfer to The Manhattan Hotel. Rest of the morning at leisure. City & Temples Tour: a city tour with visits of the most interesting temples; Golden Buddha, Reclining Buddha and Marble Temple. Overnight at The Manhattan Hotel.
Day 02 Bangkok – Ayutthaya (B)
After breakfast depart to Bang Pa In by car or van with stop at the Royal Folk and Art Center established by H.M. Queen Sirikit to train and practice knowledge in Folk Art and Crafts. Visit the workshops and the Thai village around the lake. Continue to Bang Pa In to visit the magnificent Royal Summer Palace, popular with monarchs in the Ayuthaya period and early Kings of the present Chakri Dynasty.
Drive towards Ayuthaya and cross the Chao Phraya to Wat Chai Watthanaram which was built by King Prasat Thong. Continue to Wat Phra Ram and afterwards to Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, dominated by three towering Ayuthaya style Chedis and from there to Viharn Phra Mongkol Borpit which houses a massive bronze Buddha image. Next drive to the reclining Buddha Lokayasuttha. Visit Wat Maha Dhat dating back to the late 1300 and Wat Ratburana located opposite to Wat Maha Dhat built by King Borom Rachatirat II during the 1420s. Before departing for Bangkok visit Wat Phanan Choeng. After arrival rest of day at leisure. Overnight at The Manhattan Hotel.
Day 03 Bangkok – Lopburi (B)
Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer from the hotel to Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lam Pong Railway Station) for the train to Lopburi at 8.30 a.m. (2nd Class Air-conditioned Sprinter). After arrival in Lopburi we use the hotel bus for the transfer to the hotel and check-in.
Afterwards explore the town and visit the main attractions; Wat Phra Sri Rattana Maha Dhat, a Buddhist temple founded in the 12th century, Lopburi National Museum in the compound of the Narai Racha Nivet Palace. Visit the Sophon Silp Art Museum with private collections of Buddhist Art of the late Abbot of the temple, the Vichayen House, residence of the First French Ambassador of King Louis XIV to the Siamese’s Court and also Wat San Paolo, originally a French Jesuit Church and Prang Sam Yod (the Three Spire Pagoda), the former Hindu Shrine and a landmark in Lopburi. Overnight at The Lopburi Inn Resort.
Day 04 Lopburi – Phitsanulok (B)
Breakfast. Visit the colorful local market of Lopburi Town where the goods; fresh fruit & vegetable, a mouthwatering cooked food, the array of local home made sweet, fresh food, preserve food, Housing utensils and etc. are sold here by the local vendors. Visit also to Prang Khaek, the oldest Khmer Ruin in Lopburi Town located in the market and also San Pra Kan (the Monkey Temple), the former Brahman Shrine dating back to 1951 before catching the train to Phitsanulok at 10.45 a.m. (2nd Class Air-conditioned Sprinter).
In Phitsanulok transfer by hotel shuttle to The Grand Riverside Hotel for check-in. Continue by local bus from Phitsanulok to Sukhothai to the ancient ruins of the Sukhothai Historical Park. First visit the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum which houses artifacts and art objects found in the old Sukhothai Town and nearby. Highlights of the historical park are Wat Maha Dhat, Sukhothai’s largest and most important temple with its massive stone Buddha image, Wat Sri Sawai, the original Hindu Shrine with a Lopburi style stupa and Wat Sa Sri, the monastery located on the island surrounded by an ornamental pond. Head to the outside city wall to visit Wat Phra Pai Luang which originally was a Khmer – Hindu Shrine and see Wat Sri Chum which houses a massive seated stone Buddha image, eleven metres high. Also visit to Wat Chang Lom, one of the most important structures in Sukhothai with a Sri Lankan style chedi, supported by 36 elephantine buttresses. Return to Phitsanulok for overnight at The Grand Riverside Hotel.
Day 05 Phitsanulok – Lampang (B)
After breakfast, take a local taxi to visit the main attractions of Phitsanulok Town; Wat Phra Sri Rattana Maha Dhat which houses the finest and most revered Buddha Image “Phra Buddha Chinnaraj” and continue to visit the private Ethnic & Folklore Museum of Mr. Thavee Buranakhet where you can see a collection of local folk art and crafts; basketry, pottery, authentic kitchen utensils, looms and hunting tools.
Also visit a Bronze Cast Factory nearby, where all kind of bronze wares including Buddha images are still being produced in a unique way. Proceed to Phitsanulok Railway Station for your onward travel to Lampang at 1.55 p.m. (2nd Class Air-conditioned Sprinter).
After arrival transfer by hotel shuttle from Lampang Railway Station to the Wiang Lakorn Hotel for overnight.
Day 06 Lampang – Chiang Mai (B)
After breakfast tour by horse – drawn carriage to visit Baan Sao Naak, a wooden house in Lanna Thai style and Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao with a multi – roofed chapel built in the late 18th century. Change onto a local bus and transfer to the north of Lampang to visit the Elephant Conversation Center. In the early afternoon, return to Lampang town to visit Wat Chedi Sao with its twenty white Burmese-style pagodas and visit a Mulberry Paper Making Village. Afterwards visit two Buddhist temples in Burmese-style in Lampang town; Wat Sri Chum and Wat Sri Rong Muang. In the late afternoon, transfer by local bus to Lampang Railway Station for the train at 5.40 p.m. to Chiang Mai (2nd Class Air-conditioned Sprinter). On the journey you will pass through “Khun Tan Tunnel”, the longest train tunnel in Thailand. After arrival in Chiang Mai transfer by hotel shuttle to The Downtown Inn Hotel. Check-in and overnight at The Downtown Inn.
Day 07 Chiang Mai – Lanna Farm – Bangkok (B, L)
After breakfast start by a local 4WD truck to the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp to see the show of elephants at work. Continue to a Palong village to see the way of life of this hill tribe. A drive on a beautiful country road will bring you to the Lisu village of Huay Nam Rin and the Lahu tribe of Pang Tong.
Afterwards, proceed to the Lanna Farm to enjoy lunch and experience activities around the house such as; weaving, wickerwork (bamboo and rattan), fruit and vegetable carving or take a short lesson and have some fun with the water buffalos down by the river.
Around 4 p.m. you will leave the farm for Chiang Mai to catch the train at 6.35 p.m. to Bangkok (2nd Class Air-conditioned Express Train – Sleeper Berth). Overnight will be on board the train and you will arrive Bangkok the next morning. Overnight on the train.
Day 08 Bangkok
Arrival in Bangkok (no breakfast) at Bangkok Hua Lam Pong Railway Station and transfer to the airport for your flight to Phuket.
Day 8: Arrive Phuket Arrive at Phuket Airport. Welcome and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation at your hotel in Phuket.
Day 9: Phuket: Full Day Phang Nga Bay Tour on June Bahtra (B, L) Breakfast at the hotel. Full day Phang Nga Bay tour with June Bahtra (SIC): Pick up from the hotel by air-conditioned bus. Boarding on June Bahtra and cruise through the enchanting and beautiful Phang Nga Bay. Arrive at James Bond Island and cruise by long-tail boat to the Sea Gypsy Village and visit the mangrove Delta and the Grotto cave. After these fun activities, it's time to enjoy a Thai buffet lunch on board June Bahtra. You may enjoy a refreshing swim during your cruise back to Phuket Island and transfer back to your hotel. Accommodation at your hotel in Phuket.
Day 10: Phuket (B) Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure
Day 11: Phuket (B) Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from hotel to Phuket Airport.
In some instances a overnite in Bangkok at a airport hotel is needed due to flight schedules..we will include in your trip quote. |
