Self Drive – Andaman Discovery Phuket – Khao Lak – Khao Sok – Krabi – Ko Lanta 6 Days/5 Nights
Set off to a fantastic self drive holiday in the south.Starting from Phuket,the Pearl of the Andaman, you will discover the hidden charm of the Andaman coast with tropical beaches in Khao Lak,the rain forest of Khao Sok NP and the picturesque landscape of Chieo Lan Lake.Sandy beaches as well as mangrove forest line the coast around Krabi.The destination of the tour is Ko Lanta,one of the biggest Islands of the Andaman Sea where you can enjoy your holidays on the beach or explore the unspoiled environment of the island.
Day 01 Phuket – Phang Nga --Khao Lak (B)
Start from your hotel on the beach in Phuket (earliest car pick up 08.00 hrs)and drive to the main road Nr.402,and continue north to Phang Nga.You will leave Phuket on the Thaotep Kassatri Bridge.Continue to Kok Kloi and turn into Rd.Nr.4,following the signboards to Krabi. On the left hand side you will see Wat Suwan Kuha,in a limestone hill with various caves.The biggest cave houses a reclining Buddha,a site worth visiting. Continue to Phang Nga with its impressive limestone cliffs and turn off left on Rd.4090 follow the road until the turn off to Ban Thung Maphrao (on Rd.Nr.4240).From there you will reach the highway No.4 and find between km 32-33 the access road to the Lampi waterfall.The fall is about 1,5 km from the main road and falls in 3 levels,each about 100 meters high.Return to main road to continue north to the Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park.Near km 56 the road ascends and on the top is a parking area from which you can enjoy the vista of the coast line with several beaches stretching to the north.Overnight will be at the Khao Lak Resort.
Day 02 Khao Lak -Khao Sok (B).
Enjoy the morning on the beach but don ’t start too late to explore the natural highlights of the area.The first stop brings you to the Tone Chong Fah waterfall,a quiet and shady area with water running throughout the year (km 63).Back on the main road,turn right and follow the signs to Takuapa.Shortly afterwards you will see the signboard to the Coral Cape (km 68), where the waves piled up dead corals.The beach is lined by pine trees and makes it a perfect spot for a break.Next you will reach Takua Pa a small town with some Chinese shop houses and temples,remains from more glorious times when this town was an important center for tin mining.
Visit the local market to buy some fruits or snacks before you continue towards the Sri Phang Nga National park and the Tamnung Waterfall Afterwards drive on Rd.No.401 towards Surat Thani.The landscape changes and you will drive through a densely forested area with bizarre limestone formations.
You will reach the entrance to the Khao Sok National Park soon and check in at your simple but charming accommodation,set in the jungle.Depending on the time you can explore the jungle on a walk or rent a kayak to discover the river.

Day 03 Khao Sok –Krabi (B).
Wake up to the sound of the jungle and start your day with a drive to the Rajapraba Dam.You can hire a fishermen ’s boat and go on a scenic excursion on the Chew Lan Lake with its karstic rocks and picturesque landscape.
Back on the main road a 30 km detour towards Surat Thani brings you to Wat Tham Singhkorn, a charming cave temple in typical southern style. Continue back and take the road 415 to Krabi and Thap Put.In Thap Put turn right on road 4118 to visit Wat Rat Upatam a modern hill temple that offers a great vista over the Phang Nga Bay on clear days.
The next stop will be at Thanboke Khoranee Park,which is actually a small valley,flanked by limestone cliffs.There,a subterranean river comes out of a large cave and flows over rocks towards the sea.From the park you can continue to the caves Lod and Hua Kalog,which can be reached by boat,going through a mangrove forest. Overnight at Somkiet Buri Resort,Krabi.
Day 04 Krabi – Ko Lanta (B)
Enjoy the white sandy beach before you drive back to the main road and towards Trang.North of Krabi town,Wat Tham Sua,the tiger cave,is worth a stop.Legend has it that once a large tiger roamed the foothills of the mountain and inside the cave some rock imprints of tiger paws can be seen.This monastery is very famous and many monks live in small huts and the caves.
There is also a nature trail to huge trees,hundreds of years old.
On your way to the pier to Ko Lanta you will pass the small town of Klong Thom.Nearby are the Klong Thom hot springs and the Crystal Lagoon,a beautiful small lake and ideal picnic area. Shortly after Klong Thom is on your left side Wat Klong Thom with a small museum,that houses stone tools,metal coins,ceramic and stone decorative arts,some more than thousand years old.
Continue south to Ban Nam Khao and turn right to catch the car ferry to Ko Lanta.Overnight at the Lanta Palace Resort,on Klong Khong Beach .
Day 05 Koh Lanta (B)
Beside the beaches and a lush rainforest,Ko Lanta has some attractions to offer.Explore the east coast with its mangrove forests and a Sea Gypsy village or the old town with many wooden houses and some colonial style buildings.Mai Kaeo Cave,almost in the middle of the island is worth a visit as well as the Mu Ko Lanta National Park in the far south of the island,which can be reached on a rather rough road.Overnight at Lanta Palace Resort.
Day 06 Koh Lanta – Krabi (B)
Drive to Krabi airport for the car drop off at 18.00 hrs.
The stay on Koh Lanta can also be extended with/or without the car.
Rates begin of at $197.00pp based on double ocupancy, depending on the rental car you choose...there are seasonal surcharges as well
