Thailand Travel Facts

At the time of writing, airport tax is THB 500 for international flights and THB 50 for domestic flights (outgoing flights only).

CLIMATE

Thailand enjoys a tropical climate with 3 distinct seasons-summer from March through May, rainy with plenty of sunshine from June to September and cool from October through February. The average annual temperature is 28 C (83 F), ranging, in Bangkok, for example, from 30 C in April to 25 C in December.

CURRENCY

The Baht is the principal Thai monetary unit. It is divided into 100 units called Satangs. Banknote denominations include 1,000 (gray), 500 (purple), 100 (red), 50 (blue), 20 (green) and 10 (brown)

While the banknotes are easy to decipher, the coinage is a confusing matter with a variety of sizes and types for each denomination. There are 10 Baht coins (brass center with a silver rim), two different 5-Baht coins (silver pieces with copper rims), three varieties of 1-Baht coin (silver; usually only the small-size will fit in a public telephone), and two small coins of 50 and 25 Satang (both are brass-colored).

HEALTH

There are no required vaccinations, unless you are coming from an infected area. Yellow fever certificates are required for those who area coming from an infected area. Please check the latest regulations with your local health office.

LANGUAGE

Spoken and written Thai remain largely incomprehensible to the casual visitor. However, English is widely understood, particularly in Bangkok where it is almost the major commercial language. English and some other European languages are spoken in most hotels, shops and restaurants, in major tourist destinations, and Thai-English road and street signs are found nationwide.

TIME

Thailand Standard Time is 7 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+7).

VISAS

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO VERIFY UPDATED VISA REQUIREMENTS WITH YOUR LOCAL ROYAL THAI EMBASSY OR CONSULATE.

All travelers must be in the possession of a passport valid at least 6 months after departure. Special "children’s passports" are not accepted.

Different types of visa are available for periods of 30, 60 and 90 days. Nationals of various countries are able to enter Thailand and obtain a visa upon arrival.
